The Ansett Airlines Boeing 727-277A VH-RMU arrived at Melbourne (Tullamarine) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (California / San Francisco). It was the airline's first Boeing 727 series 200 aircraft.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-338C VH-EAA 'Toowoomba' operated the airline's first Antarctic scenic flight to be flown from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. This flight, QF144/009, carried 140 passengers to the position 74 degrees 38 minutes south and some 1,500 kms from the South Pole.
