On This Day - January 16, 1980. Debbie Wardley, then aged 26, was rostered to crew an Ansstt Airlines Fokker F.27 Friendship from Alice Springs. She became Australia's first female commercial airline pilot in an otherwise very 'male oriented' industry. It was a belief at that point in time, that male pilots were much 'safer' than female pilots in commercial airline flying. |
