It was then withdrawn from service having flown 23,213 hours with 10,842 cycles and prepared for sale to Standard Airways. |

On This Day - January 29, 1971. Disaster at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport! The Trans-Australia Airlines Boeing 727-76 VH-TJA 'James Cook' operating Flight TN592 from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Perth, struck the tail-fin of the Canadian Pacific Airlines Douglas DC-8-63 CF-CPQ as it was taking-off on Runway 16. The CP Air DC-8 had not vacated the runway as the Boeing 727 took off. |

This was the airline's final Boeing 727-77 passenger service. It was then withdrawn from use and prepared for sale to Air Nauru. |
