On This Day - July 27, 1949. The world's first jet-engined passenger airliner, the de Havilland DH-106 Comet, was demonstrated to the public for the first time at the Farnborough Air Show. Qantas Airways will later wet-lease at least 6 different Comet 4 airframes - an improved variant of the original Comet, from B.O.A.C. to overcome a capacity shortage on the airline's 'Kamgaroo Route' from Australia to the United Kingdom.
