The Qantas Airways Lockheed 1049G Constellation VH-EAB 'Southern Horizon' was withdrawn from service at Sydney (Kingsford Smith). All interior fittings were then removed in preparation for its conversion to an 'all-freight' configuration in Canada.

On This Day - May 26, 1971.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-338C VH-EBU 'City of Broken Hill' was involved in the infamous 'Mr Brown' extortion bid. The aircraft was operating Flight QF755 from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Hong Kong (Kai Tak) when 'Mr Brown' demanded payment of $A 500,000 to reveal where he had placed an altitude-sensitive bomb on it, or it would explode mid-air whilst on descent.

The Trans-Australia Airlines Boeing 727-276A VH-TBP 'John Macarthur' arrived at Melbourne (Tullamarine) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (Seattle).

The Australian Airlines Boeing 727-276A VH-TBI 'McDouall Stuart' operated its final revenue service. On arrival at Melbourne (Tullamarine) it was withdrawn from use and stored, having flown 53,374.03 hours with 40,098 cycles.

The Air Chathams Convair 580 C-FCID arrived at Auckland (New Zealand) having completed its delivery flight from Kelowna (Canada). It was reregistered as ZK-CIB on its arrival.

The Ansett Airlines recently acquired Boeing 737-33A VH-CZR was ferried from Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Brisbane as Flight AN4418. Later that day the aircraft entered service, operating Flight AN104 from Brisbane to Darwin.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 737-838 VH-VYE 'Cairns' arrived at Melbourne (Tullamarine) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (Seattle / Boeing Field) as Flight QF6020. It was the airline's 149th Boeing airliner and its 29th Boeing 737. During pre-service maintenance at Melbourne, the 'Melbourne Commonwealth Games 2006' titles were applied and the aircraft was renamed 'Karak'.

The Virgin Australia Airlines Airbus A330-243 VH-XFB 'Cable Beach' entered service, operating Flight DJ553 from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Perth. This flight was the inaugural Virgin Australia Airbus A330 service.
