QANTAS was formally established, with the signing of Company Papers at the Gresham Hotel in Brisbane, Queensland. The company, based in Winton, was registered with Fergus McMaster as its first Chairman.

The Qantas Empire Airways Consolidated Vultee LB-32 Liberator G-AGKU was badly damaged whilst landing at Perth (Guildford) when the nose-wheel collapsed, causing extensive damage to the nose section. It was repaired and returned to service.

The Ansett Airlines Boeing 727-277A VH-RMV arrived at Melbourne (Tullamarine) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (Seattle).

The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-338 VH-EBT 'City of Canberra' arrived at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (Seattle, SeaTac) as Flight QF501. This delivery flight was operated as a supplementary passenger service. It was the airline's 59th Boeing airliner and its 25th Boeing 747.

The Ansett Airlines Boeing 737-277A VH-CZQ operated its last revenue service as Flight AN1013 from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Melbourne (Tullamarine). It was withdrawn from service having flown only 11,700 hours and prepared for its ferry flight to the United States for sale to America West Airlines.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-338 VH-EBU 'Nalanji Dreaming' returned to service, operating Flight QF21 from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Japan (Tokyo). This flight marked the airline's 75th anniversary.

The LOT Polish Airlines Boeing 767-35DER SP-LPA, on lease to Air New Zealand for 4-months, entered service operating Flight NZ135 from Auckland (New Zealand) to Brisbane.

The Jetstar Boeing 717-231 VH-VQH was rolled out at Melbourne (Tullamarine) in the special gold 'LYNXjet' livery. It did not enter service in this livery as the promotional deal was cancelled after the aircraft had been painted.

The Royal Australian Air Force Boeing 737-8FV (P-8A) A47-001 was ferried from Melbourne (Avalon) to Canberra for the official 'handing-over' ceremony. It was then ferried to Adelaide (RAAF Edinburgh, South Australia) later that day.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 737-838 VH-VZO 'Bendigo' operated its last service in the airline's 'New Roo' livery, operating Flight QF71 from Perth to Singapore (Changi). It was then ferried from Singapore (Changi) to Singapore (Seletar) as Flight QF6005 for repainting into the 'Silver Roo' livery.
