Syrian Arab Airlines placed an order for 2 Boeing 747SPs on December 06, 1974. Unlike most international airlines these two aircraft were to be used on the airline's medium range high density routes. Rolled out on June 15, 1976 with Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7A engines it was entered onto the Syrian Aircraft Register as YK-AHB. It was the twelfth Boeing 747SP to fly when it carried out its maiden flight on July 1st.

Configured to seat 16 First Class and 308 Economy Class passengers it was accepted by Syrian Air at Paine Field on July 16, 1976. Named 'Arab Solidarity' the aircraft entered service shortly thereafter mainly operating regional flights from Damascus to major European cities.

By May 1990 it had acquired a modified livery with an all-grey underside and was seen as such at Frankfurt Airport. It was repainted in 2003 and was observed at Sharjar Airport on November 01, 2003 in the new livery still named 'Arab Solidarity'.

This aircraft was noted as being retired on April 01, 2008 and stored at Damascus with other Syrian Air aircraft.

In the wake of improved diplomatic relations between the two countries, on October 6, 2010 the United States Government authorised Boeing to carry out an assessment on the two 747SPs owned by Syrian Air to establish whether they could be returned to airworthy status. The outcome of this inspection has not been released at the time of writing.
